It started with a tea pot, than a second one, than a copper coffee pot. I found a copper canister set that was missing one and also a copper colander and a sugar and creamer set. One thrift store had a couple different sizes of frying pans and another store provided me with a chafing dish. I came across a plaque of a mission with a Padre hammered on copper.
What would become of this collection?
One day I saw a sofa table, glass top with a crack in the corner. No one else would buy it. I could find a use for it. I liked the style, the lines, the strength of it. And it only cost $4.93. I surely could do something with it.
I have a problem with plants surviving for more than a couple of months on my front porch. I only use my front entry when some one else is driving, Otherwise, I come and go thru the garage. Therefore, I often don't notice plants dying until it's too late. There had to be a way I could have an inviting entry way with plants that live with little TLC.
Put together copper collection, sofa table and an ignored entry way and I came up with "Succulent Gardens"!! So now I started collecting succulents. I wanted a variety of plants, height, width, texture, colors, trailing, miniatures, and as few deadly needles as possible. I added to my rock collection a variety of pebbles and stones from Ikea and Michaels for accents.
I painted the table the burgundy color of my entry door. I gathered together my collection of copper pieces, succulent plants , cactus soil and garden accents ready to create. For the next three hours I arranged and rearranged cactus in pieces trying to create height, focal points and interest in design. There were various colors and textures, heights and widths, and some trailed down. And than there was the container to consider also. It was a challenge, but it was fun. And I was so happy with the results.
I love the gardens I created. Such variety and so interesting.
And now my entry reflects me and what makes me happy. My kitchen is my "happy room". I always loved to cook and bake for my family, hence the representation with the copper pieces. And than my love of my Heavenly Father and His creations, the beauty in nature.
It needs a little more work, but I'm getting there. I'm looking for a rack of some kind to hang some pieces from and maybe the copper plaque. Of course I'm open to adding to my collection. It's a start, a good start.
I'm happy today!!
I find myself walking out to my front entry just to look at my mini gardens and I'm happy to see happy succulents.
